Me!
Joanne McAuley

I've travelled for over 57 years. Leaving home at 18, I spent four years backpacking around the world, alone, but never lonely. My journals are packed with amazing adventures that make great short stories.( A few are unbelievable!)
Between working as a Designer with my Architect husband, raising 4 kids I somehow managed to travel, explore and document the ups and downs of squeezing travel into my busy life. Great memories of travelling with the family, including two 9 month trips, one around the world and one to Europe. And many two - five week escapes.
Now retired, I know I am blessed to have health and savings that allow me to continue my passion of exploring.
"The whole world is waiting to be discovered. I love every new friend I meet, every delicious new taste, every photo memory and all the intoxicating adventures that are out there, waiting for me."
"I read maps they way most people read novels. Hours and hours following roads that lead my imagination into tiny corners of the unknown. The more remote the better. I'll research to see if the area has the distinction of being a ' UNESCO World Heritage Site.' If it's designated - I have to travel there. I've never been disappointed.( Ok Cameron and China were disappointing.)"

Between this Globe on my nightside table and my Dad's subscription to National Geographic I was filled with curiosity for the World. Two Aunts in the Canadian Diplomatic Core also helped shape my passion for travel. Christmas and birthday gifts from exotic countries helped create dreams to discover the World.
